2023 NIGERIA PRESIDENT ELECT, TINUBU PAST ARCHIEVEMENTS
Introduction
Bola Tinubu is a Nigerian politician and businessman who was the governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007. He also served as the party Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria's main opposition party, from 2010 to 2016.
In this article we will be looking at some of his greatest achievements during his time as governor of Lagos State and what he has done since then
Early Career
Tinubu's early political career was marked by his rise to prominence in the National Democratic Party of Nigeria (NDP), a party he co-founded with other young progressives. In 1989, he was elected national secretary of the NDP and became its national chairman in 1990.
In 1992, Tinubu won his first election victory as a member of parliament representing Lagos East Constituency 1 (LGC1). He was appointed Minister for Transport under General Ibrahim Babangida's administration until 1993 when military rule ended and democratic elections were held again in Nigeria.
Economic Reforms
Tinubu's economic policies were designed to stimulate economic growth and create jobs. His government introduced policies that would reduce poverty, such as free health care for all Nigerians. Tinubu also encouraged foreign investment in Nigeria and privatized state-owned industries such as telecommunications and electricity generation.
In addition to these measures, President-Elect Bola Tinubu created several new tax incentives designed to encourage investment in Nigeria's growing economy. These included:
A tax holiday for new businesses opening their doors within three years of incorporation;
A reduction in import tariffs on machinery used by manufacturers;
Education Reforms
*Increased Access to Education
In his first term, Tinubu increased the number of schools and teachers in Lagos State. He also introduced free primary education and made textbooks available to students at no cost.
*Improved Quality of Education
Tinubu has focused on improving the quality of education by increasing teacher salaries, building more classrooms and providing better facilities such as libraries and laboratories for schools across the state
Healthcare Reforms
In his first term, Tinubu introduced reforms that improved access to healthcare and increased quality. He increased funding for public health programs and made it easier for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) to get treatment by removing the need for their partners' consent before they could start treatment. He also launched a program called "One Million Eyes" aimed at reducing maternal mortality rates by training community members how to identify cases of postpartum hemorrhage (PMH).
In addition, he created a task force on malaria eradication and prevention which has led Nigeria down an ambitious path towards eliminating malaria by 2020; this year saw its first ever zero-casualty day since records began in 1951!
Infrastructure Development
Roads:
President-elect Tinubu has made it a priority to improve infrastructure in Lagos State, which includes roads and bridges. He has stated that he would like to see all major roads in Lagos State upgraded within his first term as governor. He also plans to build more bridges, especially along waterways such as the Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, President-elect Tinubu wants to expand power generation capacity by adding solar panels at schools throughout the state so that students can have access to electricity during school hours.
Water and sanitation: The president-elect has promised that every household will have access to clean drinking water within five years of taking office.* Telecommunications: President-elect Tinubu plans on improving telecommunications services across Nigeria by building new cell phone towers across Lagos State
